The group they have been focusing on for the past few years is a duo consisting of US female jazz singer/tromboneer Natalie Cressman and Brazilian guitarist/singer Ian Faquini, a direct descendant of Guinga. The duo, who have continued to release noteworthy works with their wonderful ensemble and harmony, have released their latest work, a collection of Guinga's repertoire/songs, who is also Ian Faquini's teacher. Guinga himself also participates on vocals (M1, 3, 10) and guitar (M8, 12). Natalie Kressman, hailing from the Bay Area, is known for her warm-toned trombone and angelic soprano voice. Raised in a musical family?her father was a longtime trombonist in Santana's band, and her mother was a jazz singer who loved Brazilian music?she is well-versed in jazz and Brazilian music. She has also won DownBeat magazine's annual critics' vote for "Rising Star Trombone" twice (2019, 2023). Ian Fakini, originally from Bras?lia, met Guinga in his mid-teens after moving to Berklee and has been profoundly influenced by him ever since. Natalie, based in New York and having performed with Nicholas Payton and Anat Cohen, met Ian at a short-term academy called "Brazil Camp," held every summer in California, and together they formed a group. The natural harmonies on their albums "Setting Rays of Summer" (2019) and "Auburn Whisper" (2022) are gradually gaining attention in Japan (one track is also included on the compilation CD "CORE PORT x Quiet Corner: Landscape 02"). For this new album, the duo has tackled a collection of works by Guinga, the treasure of Brazilian music, guitarist and composer. His delicate and mysteriously ethereal gut guitar creates magical music, and his sound and style, often described as "ultimate beauty," have had such a global influence that he's often compared to Jobim and Egberto Gismonti. His miraculous 2019 performance in Japan was particularly noteworthy. This album reconstructs many of Guinga's most beautiful masterpieces with arrangements and a gentle sound unique to this duo. The songs, including those with Guinga's renowned partner, poet Audir Blanque, and Paulo C?sar Pinheiro, quietly approach with an intimate resonance.
