This album contains everything Children of Bodom has to offer. While the opening track, "This Road," is a bit unusual for their opening number, everything after that is pure Children of Bodom. "Under Glass and Clover" combines elements of 70s prog and 80s pop metal. "Hecate's Nightmare" has gothic, eerie elements, yet the chorus sounds like an 80s Ozzy Osbourne song. It's also interesting that "Knuckleduster," from their 2004 EP "Trashed, Lost and Strungout," has been re-recorded, as a song that "deserves more attention." The high quality of these tracks, which are musically sophisticated yet never alienating to the listener, is likely influenced by Alexi's work with The Local Band (an 80s hard rock cover band). Overall, the changes in Janne's keyboard arrangements are also noteworthy. This album also marks the debut of second guitarist Daniel Freiberg. The mixing was handled by the familiar Mikko Carmilla. Having worked on Children of Bodom's albums for 20 years since the 1998 single "Downfall," Mikko and the band have a telepathic understanding. Needless to say, the sound quality is superb. "Hexed" is perfectly described as "melodic death metal rock and roll rampage."
