Content Introduction Soilwork, a heavy metal band from Helsingborg, Sweden, has completed their new album titled "Valkehietten," meaning "reality"! Experience their original sound, where aggression reminiscent of their early works intertwines with rich melodies! Soilwork hails from Helsingborg, a port city in southwestern Sweden. They started out as INFERIOR BREED in 1995, but changed their name to Soilwork the following year, 1996, and began their activities in earnest with a lineup centered around Bj?rn "Speed" Strid (vocals) and Peter Wickers (guitar). In 1998, they released their debut album "STEELBATH SUICIDE," which was highly praised for its dynamic musicality that fused the aggression of thrash/death metal with brilliant lead solos inherited from the style of 80s guitar heroes. Subsequently, they consistently released albums such as "THE CHAINHEART MACHINE" (2000), "A PREDATOR'S PORTRAIT" (2001), "NATURAL BORN CHAOS" (2003), and "FIGURE NUMBER FIVE" (2003), and began visiting Japan frequently. Their popularity grew through both their continuously evolving creative activities and outstanding live performances. Around the time of their third album, "A PREDATOR'S PORTRAIT," Bj?rn began to showcase not only death metal-style shouts but also melodic singing with a clean voice, and the band's musical style evolved into something more diverse with each subsequent album. After the release of their sixth album, "STABBING THE DRAMA" (2005), Peter left the band. The subsequent album, "SWORN TO A GREAT DIVIDE" (2007), was produced with a guitar duo of Ola Frenning and Daniel Antonson. However, Peter returned to the band in 2008, and "THE PANIC BROADCAST," released in 2010, featured Peter and a guitar team consisting of Sylvain Caudley from France. However, in 2012, Peter decided to leave Soilwork again, deciding to dedicate himself to his career as a producer/engineer, which he had started in the United States. David Anderson, who had previously supported Soilwork live on several occasions, officially joined the band as Peter's replacement. In 2013, the remaining members released their ninth album overall and the band's first double album, "THE LIVING INFINITE," which was highly acclaimed for its ambitious nature. In 2015, bassist Ola Flink, who had been with the band since before the production of their debut album "STEELBATH SUICIDE," lost his enthusiasm for the band and left. However, with the two guitarists sharing the bass parts, they began recording and released their tenth album, "THE RIDE MAJESTIC," that same year. After the release of that album, they toured with Marcus Wibom as their bassist, but in 2016, Belgian drummer Dirk Verbeuren, who had been the foundation of the band's sound since "STABBING THE DRAMA," left the band to join Megadeth. Given that it was an unexpected offer to join one of the biggest bands in the heavy metal scene, Soilwork gladly sent Dirk off to his new home. Soilwork then solidified their lineup by welcoming Bastian Tuasg?rd, a young Danish talent who had studied under Dirk and was recommended by Dirk himself, as their new drummer. Soilwork, with its newly formed lineup, began recording with Sylvain also handling bass duties, and completed their 11th studio album, "Valkechetten," titled after the Swedish word for "reality." The album was produced by Thomas Johansson, who shares guitar parts with David in the traditional heavy metal band MEAN STREAK. Bj?rn's clean vocal approach to melodies, which is also evident in his other project, The Nightflight Orchestra, is even more refined in Soilwork, while elements derived from extreme metal, such as growling and blast beats, are also prominent. The songs are diverse in style, and "Valkechetten" is more dynamic than their recent works. Tomi Joutsen (vocals) of Amorphis makes a guest appearance on "Needles and Kin." Having celebrated their 20th anniversary in 2018, Soilwork is steadily moving forward towards another 20th anniversary.
