Heavy metal evangelists HammerFall's masterpiece "Legacy of Kings," released in 1998, is revived here in a deluxe edition with a large amount of valuable bonus tracks. HammerFall was formed in 1993 by musicians who built the early days of Swedish melodic death metal, such as Jesper Str?mblad, then a member of In Flames, and Oskar Dronjak, formerly of Ceremonial Oath. Initially, the band was merely a hobby of the members, playing 80s-style metal rather than death metal, but the situation changed dramatically with the release of their debut album "Glory to the Brave," which was made after member changes. At a time when there were headwinds for orthodox metal, they went so far as to trigger a wave of re-evaluation of melodic metal in Europe. Building on that momentum and solidifying their band structure, HammerFall's second album, "Legacy of Kings," was created, firmly establishing their popularity. Following the highly acclaimed deluxe edition of "Glory to the Brave," released last year, this is a deluxe edition created to commemorate the 20th anniversary of "Legacy of Kings." The newly remastered album includes many of the band's most iconic songs, such as "Heading the Call," "Let the HammerFall," and "Legacy of Kings," as well as a cover of Pretty Maids' classic "Back to Back." It's a work that condenses the charm of early HammerFall. The bonus CD includes cover songs previously released on various compilations, live takes of songs from this album that were later released, and demo recordings. The demo takes, in particular, are invaluable as they offer a glimpse into the process leading to the completion of masterpieces like "Heading the Call." The DVD includes recent interview footage with the original recording members, live footage commemorating their 1999 contract with Mike Brand:Shure, and excerpts of live and behind-the-scenes footage from their 1999 VHS releases "The First Crusade" and 2002 "The Templar Renegade Crusades," making it an excellent way to experience the atmosphere of the time the album was released.
