Tesseract is a five-piece band from Milton Keynes, northwest of London, the capital of England. Formed in 2003, centered around guitarist Akuru Carney, the current lineup was finalized in 2007, and around this time they were already producing a 4-track demo that included the prototype for their later debut album, "One." After releasing their debut EP "Concealing Fate" in 2010 and their first album "One" in 2011, they quickly attracted a lot of attention and expectations as the next generation of the "Djent" movement, represented by bands like Meshuggah and Periphery. Tesseract's music, which incorporates groovy riffs and unconventional rhythms reminiscent of progressive metal, along with alternative artistry and an atmospheric sense of weightlessness, has established its own unique world from an early stage, setting them apart from other Djent bands. With vocalist Ash O'Hara replacing Daniel Tompkins, they released "Altered State" in 2013, and with Daniel Tompkins returning in June 2014, they released their first live DVD/CD "Odyssey/Scala" and their third album "Polaris" in 2015, demonstrating the band's steady evolution. All three full-length albums released to date are of high quality, and their experimental musicality has garnered high praise from various media and listeners across different genres. In particular, their previous third album, which marked Daniel's return, showcased the emotional depth of an experienced vocalist who has been involved in numerous bands and projects, including the progressive metal band Skyhabour and the pop-rock band In Colour. It was a fulfilling work that demonstrated the band's further growth and expansion. And now, they are releasing their second album since moving to the prestigious modern progressive rock label Kscope, titled "Zonder." The lead single, "Luminary," features a meticulous arrangement that clearly defines the contrasts between stillness and movement, amplified by vocals that combine clean and intense voices. Even this single track reveals the band's ambitious attitude as they strive to reach new heights while maximizing their appeal. It even gives the impression that Tesseract has finally reached the other side of Djent. Djent, a genre of heavy metal that originated in the early 2000s as a neologism coined by Fredrik Thordendal, guitarist of the Swedish extreme metal band Meshuggah, and which branched off from progressive metal, has evolved over the years with various bands developing their own unique styles. Tesseract absorbs all the music pioneered by their predecessors and outputs it with their own unique interpretation. Their distinctive groove, created by complex rhythms incorporating odd time signatures and utilizing a 7-string guitar, the experimental soundscape unfolding from their impenetrable ensemble, and the damp, British atmosphere that envelops the entire work are all part of their originality and appeal.
