Trivulation, a novel and sexy death metal band that emphasizes cleavage and has a "feminine" feel, is set to release their 4th album, "Down Below"! The sound unfolds in a dark yet beautiful world that is dramatic, melancholic, and sexy! Gothic + death metal that will resonate with Japanese sensibilities! Sexy death metal. If you were to describe Tribulation's style, those words would be perfect. They also toured Japan in 2015 with the black metal band Watain. Regarding their fellow countrymen and juniors, Watain spoke somewhat hesitantly about Tribulation, saying, "They're a really great band and really nice guys. But, well, how should I put it, they have a very feminine side." What does it mean to have "feminine qualities"? (Just to be clear, all members of Tribulation are male.) Upon closer inspection, it turns out that the guitarist wears cleavage makeup on stage! Thinking that this couldn't possibly be true, I took a closer look at the stage and was surprised to see that he had drawn a black shadow down the middle of his chest, making it look as if he had cleavage. It's not uncommon for death metal bands to wear makeup. (Considering their roots, Hellhammer, it's rather orthodox.) However, when it comes to the chest, that's a different story. Isn't it a little too unconventional? Tribulation was formed as far back as 2004. After releasing a demo called "The Ascending Dead" in 2005 and an EP called "Putrid Rebirth" the following year, they made their album debut in 2009 with "The Horror." Their very interesting style of death metal based on gothic rock became a big topic of conversation. After releasing their second album, "The Formulas of Death," in 2013, they signed with major European label Century Media. In 2015, they released their third album, "The Children of the Night," and also performed in Japan that same year. Incidentally, guitarist Adam Zaars played guitar for Enforcer from 2006 to 2011. And now, their fourth album, "Down Below," is being released. Tribulation's signature style is still very much present in this work. If you were to add Sisters of Mercy-esque vocals to this backing, it would instantly become gothic rock, unfolding a dark yet beautiful world. Cold melodies played by two guitars, exquisite flavoring from piano, synths, and strings, and death vocals that act as storytellers. There are also parts that give off a black metal vibe, making you feel as if you are watching an old European gothic horror film. It is beautiful music full of mysterious allure that will send chills down your spine. The combination of Gothic and Death Metal might give the impression of some rather strange music. However, the resulting sound is dramatic, melancholic, and sexy. In short, it's truly Scandinavian metal that resonates deeply with Japanese sensibilities! A Japanese liner notes booklet by Yuji Okumura is included.
