Contents: On January 31, 2017, John Wetton passed away suddenly at the young age of 67 due to cancer. This live album became his final work. We honor his great achievements and offer our deepest condolences. Asia and an orchestra collaborate in a magnificent performance! This live album, recorded in Plovdiv, Bulgaria on September 21, 2013, is being released in Japan first! With original guitarist Steve Howe having left the band, Sam Coulson has joined the lineup! Their classic hits "Romance to Time," "I Can't Stop Talking," "Don't Cry," and "Heat of the Moment" are enhanced by the majestic sound of the orchestra, giving them a new charm! While the previously released live video collection "Asia Live in San Francisco 2012" was the last live documentary of the reformed original Asia, this album, "Asia Live in Bulgaria," is a live documentary that heralds the start of a new lineup with the guitarist replaced by the young Sam Coulson. Asia, the ultimate supergroup, has achieved colossal success, including selling over 10 million copies worldwide of their debut album, "Times of Life," released in 1982. In 2008, they reunited with their original lineup of John Wetton, Steve Howe, Geoff Downes, and Carl Palmer, and have been actively producing studio albums and touring. However, in January 2013, their original guitarist, Steve Howe, announced his departure to focus on his work with Yes and his solo career. Asia took a bold step and brought in Sam Coulson, a rising star born in 1987 who began his professional career after being discovered by Paul Gilbert through his videos posted on YouTube, as their new guitarist. With this change, their average age has dropped dramatically, and they have continued their energetic tours and released their first studio album with the new lineup, "Gravitas" (2014), attracting attention from a wide range of people, from fans who knew them in their heyday to young listeners who have recently become captivated by the charm of progressive rock. For Japanese fans who experienced Coulson's guitar live during their 2014 Japan tour, it must still leave a vivid impression. "Symphonia: Live in Bulgaria 2013" is a commemorative video collection that marks the first official live video release of this new lineup. Plovdiv, the venue for the performance, is an ancient city in central Bulgaria that has flourished since early times and has left a rich history in various arts such as music, theater, and literature. This live performance was also notable for its magnificent collaboration with the Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra, a prestigious symphony orchestra that has been based in the area since 1945. Part of it was included as bonus footage on the aforementioned "Gravitas," but this time it is fully included! The first half of the show is a solo performance by the band, and the second half is a collaboration with the orchestra. In the solo performance, the entire band is energized, driven by Coulson's sharp guitar playing, while in the collaboration with the orchestra, the melodious and symphonic characteristic of Asia, as seen in their golden age hits such as "Romance to Time," "Heat of the Moment," "Don't Cry," and "This Dream Is a Dream," is transformed into an even more romantic, expansive, and mature sound. These are the highlights to listen to and watch.
