Contents Grave Digger, a veteran German power metal band celebrating their 36th anniversary, has completed their 18th album, "Healed by Metal"! Grave Digger was formed in 1980 in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, by Chris Boltendahl (vocals) and others. Their debut album, "Heavy Metal Breakdown" (1984), attracted attention with its power metal sound influenced by NWOBHM. However, after releasing three albums, the record company decided that the name Grave Digger wouldn't sell, and they changed their name to Digger. Despite releasing their fourth album, "Stronger Than Ever" (1986), which incorporated new, catchier elements, the band alienated fans and disbanded in 1987. However, four years later, Chris reformed Grave Digger with new members and released their fifth album, "The Reaper" (1993). They made a comeback with aggressive power metal, and from their seventh album, "Tunes of War" (1996), they began producing concept-style albums. From their eighth album, "Knights of the Cross" (1998), they welcomed keyboardist Hans-Peter Katzenberg (key), showcasing a style that also incorporated mystique. Since then, they have continued to release albums at a pace of one or two every one to two years, including their only album with a twin-guitar setup featuring former Rage Against the Machine, "Ballad of a Hangman" (2009), and their 30th-anniversary album, "Clans Will Rise Again" (2010). Following "EXHUMATION - THE EARLY YEARS" (2015), an album of re-recorded early songs commemorating their 35th anniversary, they have created "Healed by Metal." This album, their first original album since "Return to the Reaper" (2014), has an overall sharp style, with a collection of compact songs centered around uptempo tracks. Chris's powerful vocals, Axel Ritt's (g) sharp guitar riffs, and the tight rhythms of Jens Becker (b) and Stefan Arnold (ds) create a masculine style that is unmistakably Grave Digger, with a parade of metal-infused tracks that will make you want to raise your fist in the air. Since their reunion, Grave Digger has been actively performing live, mainly in Europe, and in 2016 they toured North America as support for Blind Guardian.
