American bassist Zack Anderson and his brother, drummer Cory Berry, originally played in the Iowa-based psychedelic rock band RADIO MOSCOW. One day in 2011, Zack met Swedish singer Erin Larson in California. This was the direct catalyst for the formation of their new band. About a year earlier, Zack had also met Dorian Soliaux in France and was greatly impressed by his guitar playing. The members initially collaborated online, but anticipating the band's full-fledged activities, they decided to move to Sweden. A demo they released online shortly after the band's formation received a positive response, and soon they began receiving offers to release their work from various labels. Blues Pills continued to energetically compose, rehearse, and record, releasing the 7-inch single "BLACK SMOKE" on Maximum Ames Records in 2012, and the 10-inch EP "BLISS" on Crusher Records in 2014.
