[Japan pre-release/Japanese liner notes included/Lyrics and translations included] Formed in 1982, the band started in Frankfurt, West Germany, with Andreas "Gell?" Geremiah (vocals), Axel Katzmann (guitar), Bernardo Rappucci (guitar), Frank Thorworth (bass), and Oliver Werner (drums). In 1986, with Andy Bargarops replacing Bernardo, who had been ordered by his father to cut back on drinking, the band signed with Noise Records and debuted with the album "Zombie Attack." Their loud yet catchy thrash metal was a huge hit in the Japanese import market at the time. Although there were frequent member changes after that, the band continued to be active with Gellle at the helm, consistently producing albums from their second album "Chemical Invasion," released in 1987, to their 15th album "A Girl Cold Cerveza," released in 2012. The name "Tankaard" itself is a German word meaning "a large metal beer mug." True to their band name, they often dealt with beer and other alcoholic beverages as themes in their lyrics. And their 16th album, "R.I.B.," released two years after their previous one, means "Rest in Beer." It's utterly ridiculous. There's even a rumor circulating in the European metal scene that goes like this. "It's said that Tankard's drummer, Olaf Sisel, hasn't drunk water in years. That's because he has 100 percent faith in his regular drink, beer." While the veracity of that rumor is uncertain, one thing is certain: Tankard, one of the few German thrash metal bands that has never broken up, has always been, and will continue to be, the most positive, funny, and aggressive thrash metal band in Germany.
