(C)RS About the Artist: With over 100,000 lakes, vast forests, and the fantastical aurora borealis, Finnish art (music) is greatly influenced by this beautiful natural world. While drawing inspiration from jazz tradition and classical music, Jonas's music also draws heavily on nature as a motif for many of his compositions. This album opens with the dynamic solo piano number "Surge," and "Sitka" tells an episode from the Alaskan city of Sitka, featuring a collaboration with top Alaskan guitarist Teemu Vinik?inen. The traditional Scandinavian song "Emigrantvisa," made famous by Jan Johansson in the 1960s, is impressive with its nostalgic and elegant arrangement. This is a superb new work of contemporary jazz, characterized by beautiful and clear melodies and harmonies (includes bonus tracks exclusive to the Japanese edition).
