After training as an opera singer, he moved to New York in 1973. With heavy white makeup and eccentric clothing, he performed original songs and covers with unusual arrangements, ranging from arias to pop music, as a countertenor, quickly gaining attention in the underground scene in the early 1980s. Hearing rumors of his performances, David Bowie commissioned him to design costumes and provide backing vocals for an NBC TV Saturday Night Live special. His appearance on the show became a huge sensation, and he instantly gained popularity. He released his first album in 1981 and his second in 1982, but by this time his body was already ravaged by AIDS. On August 6, 1983, he passed away at the young age of 39. To commemorate the 40th anniversary of his death, his works have been reissued. This release features rare live recordings from a performance in Haller, New York in 1979. It includes eight tracks, including "Cold Song," "Total Eclipse," and "Flea Song." This is the first time it has been released on CD in Japan.
