Synopsis: This musical is inspired by the eponymous film, which won six Academy Awards in 1952 and features many of the Gershwin brothers' (Gershwin and Ira) signature songs. The story expands upon the film's plot, and new, imaginative dance sequences bring it to the stage for the first time, premiering in Paris in December 2014. The following year, in March 2015, it opened on Broadway in New York, quickly gaining popularity and running 623 shows before closing in September 2016. It won four Tony Awards in 2015: Best Choreography, Best Orchestrations, Best Scenic Design, and Best Lighting Design. It then moved to London for a West End run. This production features the original Broadway cast of that musical. A production by the Shiki Theatre Company is scheduled to begin in January 2019.
