Maurice White (born 1941), the leader of EW&F, passed away in February 2016. He began his musical career as a jazz drummer in Chicago. He moved to LA and debuted with EW&F in 1971, gaining popularity with their vibrant funk-disco sound that skillfully mixed elements of various genres. This album is his only solo album, released in 1985 when the group was on hiatus. The recording features John Robinson (drums), Paul Jackson Jr. (guitar), Abraham Laboriel (bass), Robbie Buchanan (keyboards), and others. The ballad "I Need You," used in a commercial, and his cover of Ben E. King's "Stand by Me" were hits.
