She grew up in Florida and began singing in a church gospel choir. At the age of 19, she moved to New York and formed a blues band. She performed with Taj Mahal and James Cotton in New York clubs. Later, she was cast as the lead in the popular Off-Broadway musical "Love Janis," and further increased her fame by playing Sadie, a character based on Janis Joplin, in the 2007 musical film "Across the Universe." In parallel, she released her first album "Lonely for a Lifetime" in 2003 and "Live in NYC" in 2008, and the band's popularity soared. In 2011, she signed with RUF and released her second album "Love to Beg," followed by her third album "Bliss Avenue" in 2013. Since then, she has participated in various festivals and events around the world, and released the live album "Songs from the Road" in 2014 and the soul album "Love Lives On" in 2018. His latest work is "Borrowed Time" from 2022.
