Sanctuary Cindy Blackman Santana is a jazz and rock drummer born in Ohio in 1959. At the age of 13, she was inspired by Max Roach and became devoted to jazz. She studied at Berklee College of Music and moved to New York in 1982. She honed her skills through sessions at Blue Note and other venues, and released her first leader album, "Arcane," in 1988. Since then, she has collaborated with many masters such as Pharoah Sanders, Joe Henderson, Ron Carter, and Cassandra Wilson, establishing a solid position in the jazz world. From 1992's "Code Red" to 2001's "Someday," he released six albums at a pace of one year each year. His 2010 album "Another Lifetime," a tribute to his idol Tony Williams, received critical acclaim. In 2020, he released his first leader album in a long time, "Give The Drummer Some." In parallel, he joined Lenny Kravitz's touring band for 18 years after participating in a recording with him in 1993, attracting attention in the rock world. Also in 2010, he married Carlos Santana after participating in Santana's tour, and has since toured the world as Santana's drummer.
