The Air Is Thick Matthew Stevens is a jazz guitarist born in Toronto, Canada in 1982. He graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2004. Since then, he has been based in New York, participating in tours and albums by Christian Scott, a fellow Berklee alumnus. He has also been active in albums and live performances by other important figures in contemporary jazz, such as Terri Lyne Carrington and Walter Smith III. He also participated in the production of Esperanza Sporting's Grammy Award-winning album "12 Little Spells." As a leader, he has consistently released albums such as "Woodwork" (2015), "Preverbal" (2017), and "Pittsburgh" (2021). His albums, which are produced using various approaches such as modern jazz, fusion, ambient, and acoustic, have always received high praise. He has participated in more than 70 albums to date, and boasts a brilliant career with three Grammy nominations and one win, including producing Doc Watson's 100th birthday commemorative album "I Am a Pilgrim." He has worked with renowned producers such as Quincy Jones and also teaches at Berklee College of Music.
