In the mid-1950s, he began playing in Lightnin' Slim's backing band, where he was introduced to J.D. Miller of Exelo, and began using the name Lazy Lester. He played in the backing bands of Slim Harpo and Lonesome Sundown at Exelo, and made his solo debut in 1956 with the single "I'm Gonna Leave You Baby." He released many singles until the mid-1960s. In 1967, he released his first compilation album, "True Blues," but it was not successful, and he withdrew from music. After a 20-year hiatus, he embarked on a European tour in 1987 and simultaneously released "Rides Again" on Blue Horizon. The following year, 1988, he released "Harp & Soul" on Alligator, marking a complete comeback. Since then, he has released "All Over You" in 1999 and "Blues Stop Knockin'" in 2001 on Anton's, and has also participated in the compilation "Superharps II" with Carey Bell. He also visited Japan in 2000 and appeared in the film "I AM THE BLUES," but passed away in 2018 at the age of 85.
