He studied under pianist Boogaloo Ames in Greenville and began performing in local clubs around 1984. His rolling boogie style piano playing encompasses all genres, including blues, jazz, and soul, and his passionate vocals, ranging from jazz artists like Bessie Smith to rock artists like Janis Joplin, have steadily gained him fans. In 2003, he debuted with his self-produced album "Something Cool". He continued to be active consistently, gradually expanding his field of activity, including being selected for the International Blues Challenge, a stepping stone for independent artists. In 2008, he finally signed with Yellow Dog Records and released his official debut album, "Mississippi Number One." He won various music awards, including the Blues Music Awards, and his name quickly became known throughout the United States. In 2010, he released "Ain't Got No Trouble," and in 2014, "Jigsaw Heart," both of which received critical acclaim. In 2018, he released a Christmas album, and in 2024, he released his first original album in a long time, "Getaway Blues."
