Paul Jackson, Jr.) 8. This Bitter Earth Ledisi is a singer and actress born in New Orleans in 1972. She sang in local churches and symphony orchestras from a young age, and in 1990 she played the lead role in the musical "The Wiz," winning a theater award. In 1995 she formed Anibade and in 1999 released her debut album "Soulsinger" on her own label, Lesant Music. In 2002, "Feeling Orange but Sometimes Blue" received high praise from the media and won a California Music Award. As a result she signed with Verve and her 2007 album "Lost & Found" was nominated for a Grammy for Best New Artist, among other awards. Since then, she has consistently released six albums, each receiving a Grammy nomination. In 2020, she won her first Grammy for "The Wild Card," released on her own label, Listen Back. She has continued at a rapid pace, releasing four more albums since then, including "Ledisi Sings Nina" in 2021 and "Good Life" in 2024. She has also appeared in many films as an actress, such as "Selma" (2014) and "Coco" (2022).
