In Memory of Legendary Guitarist Rick Derringer, who sadly passed away in May 2025, the McCoys' early greatest hits album is being re-released. Beat the Clock The McCoys were a rock band formed in 1962, centered around guitarist and vocalist Richard Zehlinger (Rick Derringer) and his brother, drummer Randy Zehlinger (Randy Z). They were joined by bassist Randy Hobbs and saxophonist Shawn Michaels from Rick and the Raiders, and renamed The McCoys. They debuted in 1965 with "Hang On Sloopy" on Van Records. The title track reached number one on the Billboard charts and became a massive hit, selling over a million copies. The following year, 1966, they released "You Make Me Feel So Good," but it was seen as bubblegum pop and wasn't well-received by rock fans. They then signed with Mercury Records and released psychedelic rock albums, "Infinite McCoys" (1968) and "Human Ball" (1969), but these were commercial failures. In the 1970s, Rick Derringer and the main members participated in numerous classic albums as backing musicians for Johnny Winter and Edgar Winter. After that, Rick continued to work as a solo artist and as a backing musician and producer for various artists, but he passed away in May 2025 at the age of 77.
