Born as the nephew of Allman Brothers Band drummer Butch Trucks, he inherited his DNA and began his career as a guitar prodigy in his early teens. In 1994, he formed the Derek Trucks Band with bassist Todd Smalley and others. Later, Yonrico Scott (drums) and Kofi Burbridge (keyboards) joined, and the band truly began its activities. In 1997, they released their first album, "The Derek Trucks Band," followed by "Out of the Madness" in 1998. Their third album, "Joyful Noise," released in 2002 with Mike Mathieson (vocals) joining the band, received critical acclaim and solidified the band's style. Since then, they have consistently released albums, including "Soul Serenade" in 2003, "Songlines" in 2006, and "Already Free" (Grammy Award winner) in 2009, gaining a solid following. Since 2010, he has been working with his wife, Susan Tedeschi, as the Tedeschi Trucks Band, and has not performed under the name Derek Trucks Band.
