City Folk The Doohickeys are a country duo consisting of Hayley Spence Brown, a country girl from Missouri who grew up working on a ranch in her childhood, and Jack Hackett, who grew up in a strict Japanese-American family in Atlanta, Georgia. They met and hit it off in 2021 while working for the satirical news program USC (FIGHT ON!) on a university television station. The next day, they wrote "I Wish My Truck Was Bigger" and formed The Doohickeys. Their humor and skillful songwriting quickly attracted attention in the LA country scene. In 2022, "All Hat No Cattle" won an award of excellence at the American Songwriters Contest. In 2023, "This Town Sucks" won the Best Songwriting Award at the Great American Song Contest. They then began recording with Eric Cohn of Forty Below as producer. After promotion began, their videos garnered 15 million views on Instagram and 8 million views on TikTok. Their music video "Rein It In Cowboy" also won the American Songwriters Video Contest.
