Shave 'Em Dry Donald Harrison is a jazz saxophonist born in New Orleans in 1960 and is the Big Chief of Congo Square Nation Afro-New Orleans. He started playing saxophone at the age of 16 and studied at Berklee College of Music. In 1982, he joined Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers and participated in albums such as "Oh-By the Way". He also released collaborative albums such as "Black Pearl" with Terence Blanchard, who joined at the same time. In 1990, he released his first solo leader album, "Full Circle", and in 1991, he released a Blakey tribute album, "For Art's Sake". In 1992, he released the New Orleans album "Indian Blues," featuring Dr. John and others. Since then, he has consistently released albums in various genres, including jazz, R&B, hip hop, and Latin music. In 2013, he joined The Cookers, a supergroup featuring Eddie Henderson and Cecil McBee. He has also made guest appearances on many other albums by artists such as The Headhunters and Eddie Palmieri. He is also dedicated to nurturing young talent, including his nephew, trumpeter Christian Scott, and was selected as an NEA Jazz Master in 2022.
