With a Little Help from My Friends 12. The Long And Winding Road Lucinda Williams was born in Louisiana in 1953. In her early twenties, she was active in Houston and Austin, Texas. She then moved to Jackson, Mississippi, and in 1974 sent a demo tape to the Smithsonian Folkways, which led to a recording opportunity. She released "Ramblin'" in 1979 and "Happy Woman Blues" in 1980. In the 1980s, she moved to LA and was active in a band that incorporated rock elements. In 1988, she released "Lucinda Williams". Mary Chapin Carter covered the song "Passionate Kisses" from the album, winning a Grammy Award. Then, in 1998, she finally broke through with "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road." She won another Grammy the following year, solidifying her position as a truly accomplished artist. Since then, she has consistently released albums such as "Essence" in 2001 and "Blessed" in 2011. In 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, she released six albums as part of her "Lu's Jukebox" series of online studio concerts, featuring covers of songs by the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. Her latest original album is "Stories from a Rock 'n' Roll Heart," released in 2023.
