Watch It Baby Ray Charles, who had many hits in the 1950s with Atlantic, including "What'd I Say," and reached the pinnacle of the R&B and gospel world, signed with ABC/Paramount in the 1960s. There, he released the popular song "Georgia on My Mind," which became a No. 1 hit. Then, in 1962, he released "Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music," an album of reinterpretations of country music, on his own record label, Tangerine Records. The single "I Can't Stop Loving" also reached number one on the Billboard Pop Chart. The following year, it won a Grammy Award and became the best-selling album by a Black musician, and even within the country music genre. Volume 2, released afterward, was also highly acclaimed and produced many hit songs. Two more albums, "Country and Western Meets Rhythm and Blues" (1965) and "Crying Time" (1966), continued the momentum of those two albums. This tetralogy changed the course of popular music and is proof that Ray was a genius.
