This compilation brings together rare and unreleased recordings from the 1960 sessions of the legendary jazz bassist and composer Charles Mingus, originally recorded for Candid. These recordings were not included in the three classic albums, "Mingus Presents Mingus," "Mingus," and "Reincarnation of a Love Bird." Body And Soul Charles Mingus was born in 1922 and began his career as a professional bassist in the 1940s. In the 1950s, he played with central figures of hard bop such as Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, and Dizzy Gillespie. He released several albums on his own debut record label. In 1956, he received high praise as a bandleader for his masterpiece "Pithecanthropus Erectus," released on Atlantic. After that, he released albums that addressed social issues, such as "Mingus Three" in 1957 and "Mingus Ah Um" in 1959. In 1960, he released several albums on Candid, including "Charles Mingus Presents Charles Mingus." In the 1970s, he left behind many recordings in various forms, including piano solo and big band, as well as "Changes One & Two" in 1974 and "Cumbia & Jazz Fusion" in 1977. In his later years, he was hardly able to perform due to illness and died in 1979 at the young age of 56 from ALS. Joni Mitchell's album "Mingus," in which Mingus himself participated, was released posthumously as a tribute album.
