From the 1970s, he played in clubs and other venues as a drummer for local rock bands. It was during this time that he was discovered by Albert Collins, and three months later he joined Collins' band on tour as a member. Their friendship continued for more than five years after the tour ended, and he received blues guitar lessons from Collins. Later, in 1984, he was discovered by John Mayall and recruited as the lead guitarist for Mayall's band, the Bluesbreakers. He participated in seven albums, both studio and live. Having received the seal of approval from two blues legends, he finally made his solo debut in 1995 with "Gotta Mind To Travel" on Blind Pig. After that, he moved to Alligator in 2000 and released "Suspicion," and in 2010, with Keb' Mo' as producer, he released "I Want It All Back" and a live album on RUF. In recent years, he has returned to his former label Alligator and released "Hard Truth" in 2017 and "Coming In Hot" in 2019, showing that he is still going strong even though he is over 70 years old.
