A STRING TO YOUR HEART 10. MAILBOX BLUES Lil Jimmy Reed, whose real name is Leon Atkins, was born in Hardwood, Louisiana in 1938. From a young age, he frequented clubs on the Chitlin' Circuit, and at the age of 16, he was invited to perform on stage with Jimmy Reed. Since then, he has been known by this nickname. He continued to play in clubs, but was unable to make ends meet, so he enlisted in the army at the age of 34. He served in the military for 20 years, and even formed a band there. After his discharge from the military, he began his career as a musician in earnest, making his debut in 1996 with "Schools Out." He gained popularity with his unique Louisiana-style blues, and has performed with B.B. King and Bobby Blue Bland. He has also headlined festivals throughout Europe, including in the UK, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Russia. In 2015, he released his second album, "Blues in Paradise," and in 2019, "Live!". Now, having signed with Blue Heart Records, he will make his first global debut with "Back to Baton Rouge."
