About the Artist: Muddy Waters (1913-1983) is the undisputed "father of Chicago blues," who created the band-style blues. His powerful vocals and magnificent slide guitar influenced many rock musicians, including the Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton. This album features recordings of a live performance held at Paul's Mall in Boston, Massachusetts, on June 15, 1976, broadcast by FM station WBCN. It also includes a speech by Boston Mayor Kevin White, who introduced the band and declared that day "Muddy Waters Day." Muddy, visibly pleased, sings with more power than usual, and the band members deliver spirited performances. The band members were Pinetop Perkins, Bob Margolin, Luther Johnson, Jerry Portnoy, Calvin Jones, and Willie Smith. The tracklist is a parade of his familiar signature songs. In November of the same year, he appeared on The Band's "The Last Waltz," and the following year, 1977, he released the masterpiece "Hard Again" with Johnny Winter, truly at the peak of his career.
