About the Artist: Robin McKell is a New York-born singer who has collaborated with artists such as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and Bobby McFerrin. Born in Rochester in 1976, he grew up listening to Nina Simone and Gladys Knight. He studied jazz at the University of Miami and Berklee College of Music, and made his debut on stage with the London Pops Orchestra in 1999. In the same year, she released her first album, "Never Let Me Go," independently. In 2004, she won third place in the Thelonious Monk Vocal Jazz Competition, considered a stepping stone for young jazz artists. Her 2006 album, "Introducing Robin McKelle," reached number 6 on the Billboard jazz chart, earning her praise as the second coming of Sarah Vaughan. In 2010, with "Mess Around," she shifted from standards to soul jazz. In 2012, she formed the soul band The Flytones and released "Soul Flower," reminiscent of the golden age of soul from labels like Motown and Stax. Her first performance in Japan was a great success and generated considerable buzz.
