About the Artist: Ian & Sylvia were a folk duo formed in Toronto in 1959 by Ian (born 1933) and Sylvia (born 1940). They moved to New York in 1962 and were discovered by Albert Grossman, manager of Peter, Paul and Mary and Bob Dylan. They debuted that same year with "Ian & Sylvia" on Vanguard. The following year, 1963, they performed at the Newport Folk Festival. The title track of their 1964 second album, "Four Strong Winds," became a huge hit in Canada. The two later married. In 1965, they released their fourth album, "Early Morning Rain," which featured a song by Gordon Lightfoot. They continued to release albums consistently thereafter. In 1969, with Todd Rundgren as producer, they released "Great Speckled Bird" with a band formed with Amos Garrett and others. Their country-rock sound, a mix of Woodstock and Nashville sounds, was highly acclaimed. However, the duo dissolved in 1975 and they divorced. After that, they both released many solo albums, and this year, the 60th anniversary of their formation, they were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in recognition of their long-standing achievements.
