About the Artist: Ace of Cups was the first all-female rock band formed in San Francisco in 1967. The members were Mary Gannon (bass), Marla Hunt (keyboards), Dennis Kaufmann (guitar, harmonica), and two others. They began performing seriously in the spring of '67 and quickly became a sensation, being selected to open for Jimi Hendrix's Golden Gate Live in June. Hendrix praised them in an article, and they played at famous clubs like the Fillmore West. In 1968, they appeared on the local television show, West Pole, alongside Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead. In 1969, they performed with The Band and participated in albums by Mike Bloomfield and others. Naturally, several record companies showed interest in them, but their manager declined to sign them. Unfortunately, due to a lack of commercial success and family problems, they disbanded in 1972. In 2003, their first recording, "It's Bad For You But Buy It!", a collection of live and demo recordings, was released, and in 2008, footage from 1968 was released on DVD as "Memories of the Cisco Sound," generating considerable buzz. And in 2017, to commemorate their 50th anniversary, they finally reunited.
