About the Artist: Lucinda Williams was born in Louisiana in 1953. From a young age, influenced by her parents, she grew up listening to Delta blues and Hank Williams. She picked up a guitar at age 12 and made her stage debut at 17. In her early 20s, she was active in Houston and Austin, Texas. She then moved to Jackson, Mississippi, and in 1974 sent a demo tape to the Smithsonian Folkways, which led to a recording opportunity. She released "Ramblin'" in 1979 and "Happy Woman Blues" in 1980, but neither achieved success. In the 1980s, she moved to LA and worked with a band that incorporated rock elements into its sound. In 1988, she released "Lucinda Williams," and the song "Passionate Kisses" was covered by Mary Chapin Carter, winning a Grammy Award. Finally, in 1998, she broke through with "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road." She won another Grammy the following year, solidifying her position as a truly accomplished artist. Since then, she has consistently released albums such as "Essence" (2001), "West" (2007), and "Blessed" (2011), and is now a regular at Grammy and Americana Awards.
