About the Artist: Born in Florida in 1944, raised in New Orleans. Began playing music in high school, and after graduation, became devoted to folk and blues after listening to Lightnin' Hopkins and Mississippi John Hurt. He sought instruction from guitar virtuoso Eric von Schmidt and, on his advice, moved to Cambridge, near Boston, Massachusetts. He subsequently gained attention in various magazines and media outlets and performed at major festivals. In 1970, he released his debut masterpiece, "I'm a Stranger, Too" (which included "Love You Like a Man," later covered by Bonnie Raitt). In 1971, he released "Don't It Drag On," featuring Maria Muldaur, Eric Kaz, and Bonnie Raitt. After a 12-year hiatus due to alcoholism, he made a comeback in 1984 with "It Ain't Easy." Since the 1990s, he has continued to release music consistently, with his latest album being "100 Dollar Valentine" in 2012. He is respected by many artists, including Emmylou Harris and Diana Krall, and continues to be active based in the Boston area.
