She studied piano from a young age and went on to study classical music at Berklee College of Music. In 2001, she won an ASCAP scholarship for her song "Like Water is to Sand." Although she aspired to compose film music, her participation as a backing vocalist for Patti Austin in 2002 became a turning point, leading her into the world of popular music. In 2004, Elizabeth & The Catapult was formed with guitarist Peter Larisch and drummer Dan Morad (the two later formed Luscious). Esperanza Spalding, now a highly acclaimed female bassist, was also a member of the band at the time. In 2006, they independently released the EP "Elizabeth & The Catapult." In 2008, they signed with major label Verve. Then, in 2009, they released their debut album "Taller Children." Their talent as composers was highly praised by music industry professionals, and they quickly gained attention. They released their second album "The Other Side of Zero" in 2010 and their third album "Like It Never Happened" in 2014.
