About the Artist Jim Lauderdale was born in North Carolina in 1957. He started playing in a bluegrass band in his teens. After graduating from university, he moved to New York and joined Buddy Miller's band in 1980. In the late 80s, he moved to LA and met many musicians such as Lucinda Williams and Dale Watson. In 1989, he signed with CBS and recorded "The Point of No Return," but it was never released (it was released in 2001). He then moved back to Nashville. While staying at the home of Buddy and Judy Miller, he finally made his solo debut in 1991 with "Planet of Love." Since then, he has consistently released albums, winning Grammy Awards for "Lost in the Lonesome Pines" with Ralph Stanley in 2002 and "The Bluegrass Diaries" in 2008. He has also released several albums in collaboration with Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter. As a songwriter, he has provided songs to numerous artists including Elvis Costello, the Dixie Chicks, and George Strait. He has also hosted popular TV and radio programs.
