Kit Martin, based in London and France, plays all the instruments on the album, and Merve Erdem, an artist/singer from Istanbul, also based in London. Their cool yet intimate, and mysteriously dangerous interplay is reminiscent of the many masterpieces by Serge Gainsbourg. Their psychedelic, fuzzy, and humorous music, colored in English, French, and Turkish, references late 1960s Brazilian music and North American jazz, yet it feels like it could have been in the past, but in reality, it doesn't. With such a lighthearted sense of balance and temperature, they rediscover and present a beautiful past. The dreamlike, floating feeling of Stereolab and the addictive, intoxicating quality of Khruangbin, played in a moderately restrained psychedelic space, create a truly extraordinary and pleasant experience. Like watching a collection of classic, self-contained dramas from the 70s all at once, the diverse yet consistent aesthetic, the surreal and analog charm, the musical coherence of this work, and the skillful presentation make it hard to believe it's the work of a newcomer. This young genius has captured both the magic of Devendra Banhart and the wisdom of Beirut with a cinematic, panoramic perspective, and missing the emergence of this artist would be a modern-day sin.
