The fusion of traditional gamelan/gong and modern strings creates a sound reminiscent of Steve Reich and the ECM label. A cosmic world inspired by the film "Akira" and Japanese landscapes. A repress of the sold-out LP and the first-ever CD release are now available. Pascal Bidot, a French multi-instrumentalist, is an artist who fuses gamelan and gong with electronica and jazz. This work was created after he was immersed in the music of traditional gamelan and gong during a visit to Indonesia. Many of the themes, motifs, and melodies use the "Slendro" scale, one of the important tuning methods used in gamelan, and simple saxophone lines, synths, brass, and strings gradually change to create a unique cosmic world. The album's centerpiece, "Neo Tokyo," is inspired by Katsuhiro Otomo's "AKIRA," evoking a dizzying work of art set in a vast, futuristic metropolis. "Yurikamome," on the other hand, is an imaginary soundtrack inspired by Bidou's longing for Japan and his viewing of YouTube videos of people driving through Japanese landscapes and cities. This album features contributions from Daniel Brandt, Brandt Brauer Frick (drums/electronic percussion), Florian Juncker (trombone), and Ruth Velten (saxophone).
