Contents Introduction The flourishing post-internet generation bedroom pop: A hidden gem from the Philippines, aged 22, makes his Japanese debut. Following Thailand's Phum Viphurit and Singapore's Sobbs, Lirico/Inpartment's new release in their Asian series is Mellow Fellow, the solo project of 22-year-old Filipino singer-songwriter Polo Reyes. His lo-fi, dreamy bedroom pop sound, infused with jazz and soul, has spread virally online via YouTube and streaming services, making him a promising newcomer attracting significant attention. This Japanese debut release is a deluxe special edition (CD only in Japan) that includes his 2017 album "Jazzie Robinson" plus five singles released since then. "Jazzie Robinson," which sings of the breakup with his beloved girlfriend with whom he spent his entire university years, is, so to speak, Mellow Fellow's calling card, continuing to create personal, sad songs. Mellow Fellow's nostalgic and melancholic retro sound, infused with jazz and soul into lo-fi indie reminiscent of Mac DeMarco, contains equal parts chaos and bittersweetness. The bonus tracks included on this album?"How Was Your Day?", a collaboration with 19-year-old female singer-songwriter Clairo, a leading figure in the new generation of bedroom pop, which has been a tailwind for Mellow Fellow; the hit song "Dancing," which has garnered 3 million views on YouTube and Spotify; and "New Year's Eve," a collaboration with Canadian female singer-songwriter Floor Cry?are of superb quality, proving Mellow Fellow's rapid growth. In recent years, the Asian indie scene has been developing rapidly, and Mellow Fellow is sure to attract more and more attention.
