Content Introduction Stryper emerged from the LA metal movement of the 1980s. They established the Christian metal genre by fusing gospel and heavy metal sounds. In 1992, frontman Michael Sweet left the band, and they disbanded after their final performance in Switzerland in 1993. In 1999, all members except Robert reunited to perform at an event in Puerto Rico, and in 2000, all members reunited at the first STRYPER EXPO in New Jersey. They restarted their activities in 2003. The band name Stryper comes from the word "stripe" in Isaiah 53:5, but it also plays on the word "stripes," and stripes are incorporated into the band's logo and stage costumes. Last year, they celebrated the band's 40th anniversary with a world tour in support of their latest studio album, "When We Were Kings." Stryper's setlist is a dynamic mix of classic hits, newer hits, costume changes, and upgraded stage production, demonstrating their continued evolution. As a cornerstone of Christian rock/metal, they have fused faith and heavy music for 40 years.
