Content Introduction In the early 1990s, ELEGY suddenly appeared in Japan, which was experiencing a metal movement, from the Netherlands. While based on melodic power metal, they showcased songs that incorporated progressive-flavored odd time signatures, backed by advanced musicianship. They established a unique style unlike any power metal band before them, and quickly gained popularity in Japan following the smash hit single "I'm No Fool." After that, Edward Hovinga, who had been the vocalist for the first three albums, left the band, and Ian Parry joined as the second vocalist. This album, "State Of Mind," was his first work after joining the band. This album, which produced representative songs such as "Shadowdancer" and "Trust," broadened the range of the band's work with the addition of Ian's expressive vocals and became a breakthrough album and a representative work of theirs. The band continued to perform and released several albums, but gradually stagnated after main songwriter Henk van der Laas left the band. They went on hiatus after the release of "Principles of Pain" (2002). More than 20 years later, in 2023, when they had almost faded from people's memories, a reunion and tour with the original members, including Henk, was suddenly announced, creating a buzz.
