Content Introduction Tommy Bolin, who had been active as a professional guitarist since his teens, played in several bands before gaining widespread attention for his participation in Billy Cobham's masterpiece "Spectrum." Hearing of his reputation, Deep Purple, who were looking for a replacement for Ritchie Blackmore at the time, approached Tommy about joining the band. He was ultimately selected as their second guitarist. In "Come Taste The Band," their first album with Tommy, released in 1975, Tommy played a central role in songwriting, a significant promotion for him. Meanwhile, around the same time as Deep Purple's recording, Tommy was recording his debut solo album. That album is "Teaser." The recording members for this album include Jeff Porcaro, David Foster, Paul Stallworth, David Sanborn, Glenn Hughes, Phil Collins, Narada Michael Walden, Stanley Sheldon, Jan Hammer, and many other names who are now prominent figures in the modern rock scene. The songs on this album showcase his wide range of musicality, encompassing funk, jazz, rock, fusion, reggae, and more, demonstrating how his talent was recognized and appreciated even back then. Tommy also handles vocals on all tracks except the instrumental ones. His reputation further soared after he joined Deep Purple, and after Deep Purple's first breakup, he released his second solo album, "Private Eyes," but sadly passed away in 1976 at the young age of 25.
