Supported by a live band and orchestra, 'Nothing's About to Happen to Me' immerses Mitski in a rich narrative about a reclusive woman living in a dilapidated house. She is an outsider outside the home, but free inside. Mitski wrote, composed, and sang all the songs on the album herself. Produced and engineered by Patrick Hyland. Mastering was handled by Bob Weston, with Kris Bulakowski on drums and production assistant. Continuing the musical direction established in her previous album, *The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We*, this album features live performances by the band that toured for *The Land*, along with ensemble arrangements. The orchestral parts were recorded at Sunset Sound and TTG Studios, with arrangements and conducting by Drew Erickson. Michael Harris served as engineer, with Isaac Diskin as sub-engineer and Alex Miller as assistant.
