The band collaborated in the studio with indie heroes Gary Jarman and Ryan Jarman of The Cribs during the recording of 'New Last Name,' and they also worked closely with the band on production. 'New Last Name' is an adventurous album not only sonically but also thematically, and as the title suggests, it alludes to a new beginning. "It's a play in an album. A lot is going on in it. You can simply enjoy it as an album, but there are characters, acting, staging, and so on. The listener can decide the story for themselves, but we want them to be immersed in it," explains frontman Sean Murphy O?fNeill. "Although it's tied together with a narrative thread, I'll admit that 'New Last Name' isn't a real play. In reality, it's a collection of our most condensed pop songs and our strangest experiments," Murphy O?fNeill continues, describing the album. "We loved their debut LP, 'Guitar Music.' The well-chosen title and the freedom to disrupt melodies with noise really resonated with us. And it was clear that beneath the relentless experimentation and layers of chaos there was a very sophisticated songwriting process. So we were really looking forward to seeing how they would approach their next LP. Recording a second album is the most important time in an artist's career. It's a moment when skill catches up with passion and real magic happens, but it's also a time when they struggle to keep up with the initial surge of inspiration (the dreaded second album slump). Formed in 2008, they released their debut EP, "Grand National," in 2021.
