Co-produced by Dan Carey Grian Chatten has announced details of his solo debut album, "Chaos For The Fly," which will be released this summer on June 30th via Partisan Records. The Fontaines D.C. vocalist worked on this album with producer Dan Carey. Thirty miles north of Dublin, along a windswept promenade, lies a dilapidated casino. It's a place known to anyone who knows the rusty charm of forgotten coastal towns. Now shuttered, the lounge bar is filled with the sounds of billiard balls and glasses, just as loud as the slot machines. This is where "Chaos For The Fly" was born. "I was walking down Stoney Beach at night, and the song just came to me at the water's edge. I just stood there, watching the waves, and then I heard it. Every part of it, from the chord progression to the string arrangement," Chatten recalls. The finished song could have been reshaped and reconstructed with the Fontaines D.C. band members, but Chatten decided to approach it differently. "I just wanted to create it myself. I know the band's next direction, but that's not where I wanted to go with this song. There are some exaggerated parts of my soul, and I wanted to express them. The other members are all creative and songwriters in their own right, so I didn't want to go up to them and say, 'No, it has to be like this.' I didn't want to compromise these songs that way," he explains. Co-produced by Dan Carey, Fontaines D.C.'s longtime producer, the album turned out to be Chatten's most poetic work to date. "Many of the songs on this album were written by me with just a guitar, and I really like the idea of ??simmering the elements. It's like the songs are in the palm of my hand, and I can control them with just myself and the guitar. As a result, they gain more intensity," he says. Across nine tracks, 'Chaos For The Fly' incorporates all sorts of emotions and stories from life. Some are certainly painful, but by giving them form and bringing the voice to life, Chatten has created something with its own unique beauty. This is a place you'll not only want to visit, but a place you'll want to return to again and again. The past 12 months in Fontaines D.C. have been hectic but fruitful. The band released their third album, 'Skinty Fia'. Following 2020's 'A Hero's Death', which was nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2021 Grammy Awards, and their 2019 debut album 'Dogrel', which was nominated for both the Mercury Prize and the Irish Choice Award, this album was nominated for the Ivor Novello Award and received critical acclaim.
