The album was recorded in Lanarkshire with the participation of Grammy Award-winning producer Congleton. "The Bad Fire," which means hell in Scottish colloquialism, is inspired by a series of personal difficulties the band faced after dominating the charts with their 10th album, "As The Love Continues," in 2021. This is a collection of songs that shed nostalgia and easy triumphs, from a band that has persevered through such challenges. Mogwai moves forward once again with some of the most beautiful and explosive songs of their career. "After the high we got from releasing 'As The Love Continues,' the following years were personally difficult. We've dealt with a lot of loss. In Barry's case, his daughter was seriously ill. Coming together again to write and record this album felt like a refuge, and I feel we've created something special with John Congleton. We often hear people say our music has helped them get through tough times in their lives, and I think that's true for us this time too," says Mogwai. 'The Bad Fire' is the band's bold comeback, a record that maintains its power while exploring fresh new territory. Mogwai has been moving forward without a plan since their teens. Naturally, there were no secret meetings to formulate a master plan. It's rare for a band to stay active for so long and release so many albums. 25 years after the release of their debut single, Mogwai's tenth studio album, 'As The Love Continues,' debuted at number one on the UK Official Albums Chart. "We didn't start the band or the label to get on the charts, and nobody imagined we'd be in a position to reach number one. We borrowed ?400 from my now-brother-in-law and started the label. Martin's family generously helped us with the studio fees to record our songs. We were just kids who wanted to make some great music and get John Peel to play our records. Surprisingly, John played them, and after a while, we ended up where we are today," says Stuart Braithwaite of Mogwai. In 2025, Mogwai will celebrate their 30th anniversary. No one could have imagined that they would reach this point since forming in Glasgow in 1995. Nor could anyone have predicted that their next album would follow their first number one hit. Mogwai's previous album, "As The Love Continues," became the number one album during the unexpected lockdown in 2021, thanks to a spontaneous, grassroots social media campaign. Fans and music industry supporters alike agreed that what the country needed during those difficult times was Mogwai at the top of the charts. The new album, "The Bad Fire," will be released on January 24, 2025. Mogwai was formed in Glasgow in 1995. The members are Stuart Braithwaite (guitar, vocals), Barry Burns (guitar, piano, synthesizer, vocals), Dominic Aitchison (bass guitar), and Martin Bulloch (drums). They have released 10 studio albums since 1997, and their latest album, "As The Love Continues" from 2021, reached number one on the UK charts. The band achieved both commercial and critical success, receiving a Mercury Prize nomination and winning Scottish Album of the Year. They have also released several EPs and contributed scores to projects for Amazon Prime and Apple TV+. Mogwai founded Rock Action Records, an independent record label based in Glasgow, in 1996. Initially established to release their own music, the label has grown from a DIY project in the mid-1990s Glasgow scene to a worldwide label that maintains the ethos (values, beliefs, and behaviors clearly distinct from other eras and societies) and independent spirit that define Mogwai, 25 years later.
