Contents Introduction Muff, a leader in the jam/instrumental/festival scene, presents their long-awaited new album, their first in six years since their previous album "RETRO FUTURE," which saw a highly successful release live show at Tokyo's Daikanyama UNiT! This is a dance music album featuring 10 tracks of disco and funk sounds played by an instrumental band. This album, "FAKE THE FUNK," is their fifth album and their first in six years. Track #1, "N.E.P.C.," unfolds in three chapters: disco, techno, and house, in a crossover mix reminiscent of a DJ connecting tracks. Track #2 is "THE SPEAKEASY," which was released as a digital single in advance. It's a funky track that pairs wonderfully with dance performances, and a music video has also been released. From there to track #6, a variety of dance numbers continue in a non-stop mix. Tracks #4 to #6 are deliberately bound to the same BPM, and the smooth transitions between songs emphasize the album's concept as a dance music album. Track #7, "BITTERSWEET," evokes a meltingly bittersweet feeling no matter where or when you listen to it, while also allowing you to experience the exhilarating feeling of swaying along. In contrast, track #8, "FUNNY," showcases Muff's unique take on alternative funk, composed of synth sounds and heavy riffs. Towards the end, tracks #9, "ON THE ROAD," and #10, "BLUEMOMENT," return to funky and groovy tracks to conclude the album. The album unfolds with a variety of dance music styles at a brisk pace, making it a work that you can listen to all in one go without getting bored. Having performed at outdoor festivals across Japan and thrilled countless crowds, Muff continues to deliver consistently strong live performances. Even during the pandemic, they continued their activities without interruption, including live streaming and online sessions, while actively working on new music.
