The Orb, the electronic giants led by Alex Paterson, have completed their new album. Their 18th album, "Prism," featuring Michael Rendall once again as a partner, is now released. Released on April 28, 2023, by Cooking Vinyl, "Prism" is the third album from the Alex Paterson and Michael Rendall duo. This album seamlessly blends a wide range of genres, from ambient, house, and dub to poetry, pop, authentic drum and bass, and reggae. It also features appearances from David Harrow (Anne Clarke, Psychic TV, Razormaid, Adrian Sherwood, Andy Weatherall) and Gaudi (Max Romeo, Capleton, Johnny Clarke, Desmond Dekker). Other guest appearances include The Orb regulars Youth, violinist Violeta Vicci, Kompakt Records alumnus Leonardo Fresco, Metamono's Jono Podmore, guitarist and Alex's longtime friend David Lofts, vocalist Eric Von Skywalker, Andy Cain, and Rachel D'arcy. The Orb was formed in London in 1988 by Alex Paterson, who was Killing Joke's roadie, and Jimmy Cauty of The KLF. Jimmy Cauty left in 1990. Since then, the group has been centered around Alex Paterson and remains immensely popular as an electronic music group that established ambient house and progressive house. Their debut album, "The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld," was released in 1991 by Big Life. Their second album, "U.F.Orb," released the following year in 1992, reached number one on the UK charts. The group then moved to Island Records. Following the live album "Live 93" in 1993 and the mini-album "Pomme Fritz" in 1994, they released albums such as "Orbus Terrarum" (1995), "Orblivion" (1996), and "Cydonia" (2001). In 2004, they released "Bicycles & Tricycles" on Cooking Vinyl, in 2005 "Okie Dokie It's the Orb on Kompakt" on Kompakt, in 2008 "The Dream" on Liquid Sound Design, and in 2009 "Baghdad Batteries (Orbsessions Volume III)" on Malicious Damage, continuing to release albums on different labels. In 2010, he released the album "Metallic Spheres" on Columbia, featuring David Gilmour of Pink Floyd, which reached number 12 on the UK charts. Subsequently, he released two albums on Cooking Vinyl: "The Orbserver in the Star House" (2012) and "More Tales from the Orbservatory" (2013), both featuring Lee "Scratch" Perry. In 2015, he released "Moonbuilding 2703 AD" on Kompakt, his first album in 10 years.
