His fifth album, "Chlo? and the Next 20th Century," his first in four years, is now on sale. Josh Tillman, also known as Father John Misty, will release his fifth album, "Chlo? and the Next 20th Century," on April 8, 2022, via Sub Pop (Bella Union in Europe), his first since 2018's "God's Favorite Customer." The album was composed and recorded between August and December 2020 and features arrangements by Drew Erickson (Lana Del Rey, Weyes Blood, etc.). Tillman created "Chlo? and the Next 20th Century" with his longtime collaborator, Jonathan Wilson (Conor Oberst, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, etc.). Dave Cerminara was hired as engineer/mixer, and the basic tracks were recorded at Wilson's Five Star studio. Strings, brass, and woodwinds were recorded at United Recordings in sessions featuring Dan Higgins, Wayne Bergeron, and others. The album contains 11 tracks in total, including "Funny Girl," "Q4," "Goodbye Mr. Blue," and "Kiss Me (I Loved You)." Father John Misty, whose real name is Josh Tillman, is a singer-songwriter, guitarist, and drummer from Maryland, USA. He moved to Seattle at the age of 21 and began his music career. After releasing several works on CDR, he released the album "Minor Works" under the name J. Tillman on Fargo Records. He continued to release solo works after that, but feeling stuck, he joined Fleet Foxes in 2008. He was the drummer for the band until a live performance in Tokyo in January 2012. In May 2012, Father John Misty released his debut album, "Fear Fun," on Sub Pop. This album received critical acclaim, and his second album, "I Love You, Honeybear," released in 2015, led to his global breakthrough. In April 2017, he released his third album, "Pure Comedy," which became a top 10 hit in both the US and the UK (reaching No. 10 in the US and No. 8 in the UK). It was nominated for Best Alternative Music Album and Best Recording Package at the 60th Grammy Awards, winning Best Recording Package. He also performed at the Fuji Rock Festival in 2017, delivering an overwhelming performance that was widely hailed as one of the best acts, and in February 2018, he embarked on his first Japan tour. In June 2018, just 14 months after his previous album, he released his fourth album, "God's Favorite Customer."
